MultiVersus Tier Lists are a helpful way to figure out which characters unlock and learn, and this 2v2 MultiVersus Tier List aims to do just that. Starting with the pre-release version (which rolls into the full release), this page includes breakdowns of the overall power of all MultiVersus characters and where each stack up in comparison to the rest of the roster.

Continue on and you'll find samples of tier lists created by other notable members of the MultiVersus community and the greater FGC. You can click or tap here to jump to the MultiVersus community section.

What's the Best Character in MultiVersus?

Season 1.0 and 1.01 Patch Update

Since we released our Season 0 tier list, two character balance patches have released. You can see the patch notes on each individual character page, as well as on the Season 1 Patch Notes page.

To give you a quick at-a-glance idea of who was buffed, nerfed, changed, or left alone SINCE we published the tier list, check out this image below!

NOTE: The MultiVersus development team has also announced another balance patch is coming soon, and it will buff Garnet and Taz further.

Season 0 - MultiVersus IGN 2v2 Tier List

This tier list is a reflection of the respective power of the different MultiVersus characters when used in teams in the standard 2v2 mode. In this format, certain characters are extremely powerful, but you can make anyone work with the right partner.

NOTE: This tier list reflects the game BEFORE the 1.0 patch, during Season 0. The tier names mean something! Overall character power in MultiVersus is high, and every character is viable in 2v2, so long as lower-tier characters are paired with higher-tier ones.

S Tier Bugs Bunny, Velma, Finn
S- Tier Superman, , Steven Universe, Reindog, Jake, Harley Quinn, Iron Giant
A Tier Wonder Woman, Batman, Shaggy
A- Tier LeBron James, Garnet, Arya Stark, Taz

S Tier Characters

S Tier: Bugs Bunny

The best Mage class character in the game, Bugs has a lot of things going for him. With ranged attacks that can go in any direction, ways to control lots of the screen, a way to safely approach as well as escape via his tunnel (which can be used by his ally, too), and ways to combo into kills from roughly 50 damage.

His only real issue is his low weight, which makes it easy for him to be launched further, earlier, but Bugs also has such fast, unpredictable movement that a skilled player can mitigate that problem.

S Tier: Velma

The best support character in the game, she can cycle between four different powerful cooldown abilities, including lowering cooldowns for her partner. She has the ability to heal herself and her party as she attacks enemies, and is great at sniping people from across the map.

She has a good kill move in her air down attack, and while she isn't the best in 1v1, any other character loves to have a Velma on their side.

S Tier: Finn The Human

Right now, the best thing about Finn is the disjointed hitboxes on his moves. Whether he is using his upward air attacks, his up special, or whatever else, he hits further away than his moves appear to. This lets him punish many other characters he is contesting in the air, even when it seems like he should lose to them.

In addition, his skill ceiling is high, so even if he has trouble in the early game, he can start to steamroll characters with his store-bought stat increases and bonuses if he can stay alive long enough. He starts great out of the box, but he can increase his speed and defense even further to stay a problem.

S- Tier Characters

S- Tier: Superman

Superman is the best Tank type in the game, currently. Not only can he take tons of damage without being launched easily, but he also has great combo ability, kill confirms, and incredible recovery with his ability to fly. His armored and wide-ranging moves are also fantastic for melees.

His air grab has high priority, meaning he can damage or even kill while he's recovering, and he can play it safe at high damage with his heat vision, attacking the ground from the air. Because of his ability to tank a lot of damage, many beginners will opt to wade in and start swinging, which is a viable strategy, given his fantastic normals, but better players will utilize his varied moveset to make the Man of Steel truly shine.

S- Tier: Tom & Jerry

The ability to snipe from virtually any distance, filling the screen with projectiles makes it really difficult to avoid him, and his great buttons make him a threat in close range, too. He can also juggle fairly well and his kill ability is solid.

Even if Jerry dies, removing some moves from his toolkit, he comes back quickly enough that it's not a big deal.

S- Tier: Steven Universe

link=

Steven is a very solid character with extremely powerful special abilities. His ability to put shields on his partner from anywhere on the screen is incredibly useful, as is the ability to create shield platforms to stand on.

His range leaves a bit to be desired, but his ability to deal damage and kill confirm bridges that gap a bit, leaving him in a very useful 'support+damage+ spot on a team.

S- Tier: Reindog

link=

Reindog is a well-rounded character with enough support abilities to fill a role on many teams, and enough reach on its wide array of normals to be a threat at any range. Zone out enemies with powerful area-denial fireballs, then either chase enemies down or punish them for approaching you with powerful down and up normals to confirm the kill.

With those vertical tools, and the ability to pull their teammates back to them instantly from anywhere on the map, you have a character that can both edgeguard well and enable teammates to edgeguard and fight off-stage.

S- Tier: Jake The Dog

Jake is one of the best bruisers in the game. With huge range on many of his normals, the ability to combo his skateboard kickflips (and other moves) into each other for very respectable damage, and his recovery ability, he is as well-rounded as they come.

Combine that with his kill ability off several moves on both the horizontal and vertical axis, and his ability to hit extremely hard on players who aren't keeping tabs on him, he has everything you need to win.

S- Tier: Harley Quinn

An incredibly fast, trap-based character, Harley is one of the absolute best vertical killers. With great up normal and special moves that can kill even at lower damage, she can also set up her jack-in-the-boxes on the ground or in the air to punish enemies for trying to approach, or deny parts of the map to them.

A great team player (unsurprisingly, considering her recent comic book and movie runs), she has all the makings of a fantastic player, and her tricky abilities let you play mind games with opponents.

S- Tier: The Iron Giant

With a really belligerent downward air butt-stomp, and his incredible weight making it difficult to kill him, he can run rampant on your team. Without focused attention, he's a real problem, forcing opponents to ignore the opponent and deal with him.

He has powerful, ranged moves that deal a lot of damage and kill easily, and he has the ability to perform armored moves that also add armor to his ally.

A Tier Characters

A Tier: Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is a fantastic all-around character who works really well in a wide variety of situations. With the ability to shield opponents, a variety of good ranged normals, multi-hitting moves, and armored moves, she is a great rushdown-style character for a Tank.

She's the fastest Tank on the roster, and she also has excellent recovery ability. Combine that with a solid damage-dealing and killing power and you have a great jack-of-all-trades pick.

A Tier: Batman

Batman's up special and air down special are his great kill moves, meaning he can finish what he starts, even if he's best teamed up with other Assassin's or Brawlers who can capitalize on alley-ooping his damage.

Getting stray hits lets him pile damage on pretty well, he can hitconfirm into combos easily, and his ability to stack Weakened is another great way to set up opponents for deathblows. His inability to kill, aside from certain vertical skills, and a bug in the current version of the game is currently holding him back from S tier, but the Dark Knight is still a solid choice.

A Tier: Shaggy

advertisem*nt

One of the best kill-confirm characters in the game, particularly with his Enrage side special and up special move. His down normal is a great spike and, particularly with certain perks, his ability to play off screen is nearly unparalleled.

He moves slower than you'd expect, but with the incredibly active moves at his disposal, he's a threat you have to respect.

A- Tier Characters

A- Tier: LeBron James

While LeBron is a really fun character to play, but his central gameplan revolves around having a basketball. As long as you have a ball, he's great, but without the ball his utility, range, and power is limited.

He can apply Weakened from the air, which is nice, and he can block projectiles for himself and other characters when he doesn't have a basketball (and doing so gives him a basketball), but the powerful universal Dodge mechanic, and the short cooldown (and ability to recover basketballs by hitting opponents) makes it somewhat superfluous.

A- Tier: Garnet

If Wonder Woman is the jack-of-all-trades, Garnet is the master-of-none. While she has a lot of different tools, nothing makes her stand out in a significant way. She has an interesting movement ability that helps her recovery, but her moves are too slow, and not active or disjointed enough to join the more powerful characters higher up on the list.

A- Tier: Arya Stark

advertisem*nt

Arya Stark is a very interesting character that has powerful tools and powerful weaknesses. The lightest character in the game, she can be launched quicker and more easily than other characters.

As a trade-off, she works fantastically with teammates who have reliable access to kill confirms. Arya can rack up the damage and work to harry foes, then work with her partner to bring the match to an end. Unfortunately, she needs a bit of finesse to be able to make that happen, and it's easy for enemies to crush her before she gets started.

A- Tier: Taz

Taz was an incredibly powerful character in earlier versions, but with substantial nerfs to his tornado ability, he isn't a powerhouse anymore. While he is still fun, and he still has plenty of good tools to work with, including his ability to Salt his opponents and combo enemies, his killing power is much reduced, so he is power-crept by other characters in the game.
