As a relatively new user of Spotify, I can’t really commiserate with the details of this article, but we love a good meme here at Current! This year’s Spotify Wrap-Ups have been great to see, and the Apple Music vs Spotify nonesense is great. The most troubling bit, is the impact it’s all had on independent artists and musicians. Seeing a million or so plays while reaping dozens of dollars can feel defeating. Licensing deals with major advertisers are becoming more lucrative than record deals. As someone who considers themselves an *ahem* “artist” - and has music on Spotify, BTW - it’s been alarming to see the slow commoditization of recorded music. I knew it was over when Apple decided a song was worth $0.99. It’s only gotten worse for artists since then.Anywho, its important to remember that art is supposed to be an outlet, not a commodity, so if you feel it, make it.#GetCurrent #CurrentMarketingSolutions #MakeArt #MakeGoodArt #MakeGreatArt #MakeAnyArthttps://lnkd.in/eqjS4cDk

This would be a major move for Spotify, as it would allow the company to compete with other streaming services that already offer full-length music videos, such as YouTube Music and Apple Music. It would also give Spotify a way to attract new users who are interested in watching music videos. However, it is not yet clear how much music videos would cost to watch on Spotify. It is possible that they would be included in the regular subscription fee, or that they would be available as a premium add-on.Only time will tell if Spotify will actually add full-length music videos to its platform. However, if the company does move forward with the feature, it could be a major shake-up for the streaming music industry. Here are some of the potential benefits of adding full-length music videos to Spotify:Attract new users: Music videos can be a great way to discover new artists and songs. By adding full-length music videos to its platform, Spotify could attract new users who are interested in watching music videos.Increase engagement: Music videos can be a great way to keep users engaged with Spotify. Users who are watching music videos are more likely to stay on the platform for longer periods of time.Generate revenue: Spotify could generate revenue from music videos by charging users a premium to watch them. This could be a new source of revenue for the company. However, there are also some potential challenges to adding full-length music videos to Spotify:Cost: It could be expensive for Spotify to license full-length music videos from record labels. This could make it difficult for the company to make a profit from the feature.Bandwidth: Streaming full-length music videos can use a lot of bandwidth. This could be a problem for users who have limited data plans.User experience: Adding full-length music videos to Spotify could make the platform more cluttered and difficult to use. This could alienate some users.#Spotify#MusicVideos#FullLength#Streaming#YouTubeMusic#AppleMusic#NewFeature#PotentialBenefits#Challenges#StreamingMusic

When I first entered the music business in 2009, the entire industry was on its knees. Piracy was rife and CD sales were dying year on year. The global recorded music business revenue was in a state of freefall. However, I saw what I felt was the most incredible consumer product for music consumption ever created. That product was called Spotify.Fans could find any track they wanted to listen to, without having to search through torrents and other file sharing websites like Pirate Bay.It was very logical that what Spotify had brought to the market, music streaming, was going to be the future of the music business. Many artists attack Spotify, without fully understanding how it was back then and how bad things would be if Spotify had not pioneered music streaming in the music business. For this reason, we have to thank Spotify for saving the music business and getting the momentum in place for rivals to create their own streaming platforms. It is predicted that the recorded music business revenues will double between now and 2030, and beyond that, it could be 10x or more as Spotify and other platforms introduce new initiatives designed to further monetize their user bases. Here are 7 reasons why we should all thank Spotify:

🎧 Spotify Premium Prices Increase Amidst Growing Popularity✔️ Source:👉 https://lnkd.in/eZzmNpMKListening to your favorite songs uninterrupted is about to become a bit more expensive as Spotify makes adjustments to its Premium plans. The leading music streaming service recently announced that it will be raising the prices for all its Premium subscriptions, marking its first increase in over a decade. This move comes as competitors, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music, have also raised the costs of their ad-free individual plans in the past year. Let's dive into the details and explore how this price hike might impact Spotify users and the company's growth.Interesting Facts:➖ Spotify has over 50 million songs available for streaming. This number is constantly growing as artists keep adding plenty of tracks to the music platform every day. Even with just 50 million songs, Spotify's library is certainly very impressive.➖ Spotify was founded in Sweden in 2006. The company was founded by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, and it was originally launched in Sweden and Norway. Spotify has since expanded to over 180 countries around the world.➖ Spotify uses machine learning to personalize your music experience. The more you listen to Spotify, the better it gets at understanding your taste in music. This means that Spotify can recommend new songs that you're likely to enjoy, and it can also create personalized playlists for you.#Spotify #Premium #SpotifyPremium #Music #AppleMusic #AmazonMusic #YouTubeMusic🔀 ➥ Forward

90,000 minutes - or about 4 hours each day. That was what 'Spotify Wrapped' revealed about my 2023 in music. With this in mind I was fascinated to read this article. What it fails to acknowledge is how Spotify has disrupted the music industry in the favour of consumers - you no longer need to buy an album where you like only 2 of the 12 tracks on it. This is what disruption is all about. As for the artists, previously when you loaned music to friends - and perhaps they recorded it on to tape - the artist got nothing - even if the music was played thousands of times. In the early days of MP3, major artists like Metallica made an enormous noise about MP3s being shared and they got nothing (I remember an interview with James Hetfield comparing his work being listened to for free as being analogous to a plumber working for free).Spotify has turned the music industry on its head - bands used to go on tour to promote an album - and made money from the album. Now they release an album, via Spotify, to promote a tour from which they make money. If they are clever they pay Spotify to promote their music to win over fans - I have been won over this way several times. Courteeners, White Lies and The Wombats are all acts* I have seen live (and would see again!!!!) that I only discovered because of Spotify - all of them will have have paid Spotify to reach me and listeners with similar music liking profiles. Without that they would never have reached me.In a similar way long-established artists have their back-catalogues available on Spotify - introducing them to a whole new audience - again winning new fans and bringing them to concerts - I have been to see The Who and Noel Gallagher based on this.(*I now have Frank Turner, Editors and Foals all in my sights for live shows - all because of Spotify.)https://lnkd.in/epfkhKtY#digitaldisruption #spotify #sportifywrapped #music #musicbusiness #musicindustry #

In my #DCIMCapstone project, I plan to focus on how music streaming platforms have made an impact on the music industry and its stakeholders. Platforms like Spotify or Apple Music have made it convenient for listeners to have access to a vast catalog of music, podcasts, and other audio services.I have discovered that an app like Spotify plays a pivotal role in shaping the choices of a listener. There are calculated algorithms in Spotify's playlists that can boost an artist's outreach. This strategy of shaping the listener's music preferences allows for concentrations of power to dictate what songs are popular. This can ultimately cause an imbalance in the music industry as power players will often be prioritized while emerging artists have a harder time getting that same exposure. There are concerns as to how the power dynamics of the music-streaming industry complicate the operation of royalties and licensing. I think this article is a great read that dives into those concepts. 🎸🎧#musicindustry #musicstreaming #musicbusiness https://lnkd.in/efntM4-5
