The sesame seed crust gives it a flavorful and crunchy finish, and the optional wasabi or spicy mayo side dip gives it the perfect amount of zest. Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Recipe

Ingredients:

  • ½ pound Ahi tuna steak (Look for this at your local grocer or fish market. Make sure it is defrosted before you begin.)
  • 3 Tablespoons of black sesame seeds (You can find these in the spice aisle at your local grocer)
  • 3 Tablespoons of white sesame seeds
  • Sea Salt
  • Olive oil
  • Optional: Mayo soy sauce and wasabi

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, add the black and white sesame seeds as well as a pinch of salt. Stir.
  2. Coat the entire outside of the tuna by pressing it into the sesame seeds until the steak is coated.
  3. Preheat your pan to a medium-high heat
  4. Coat the bottom of the pan with oil.
  5. Take your sesame coated tuna and place it in the hot pan carefully. The oil will splatter a bit.
  6. Sear it for about 45 seconds on all sides. Remove the tuna from heat and set aside.
  7. On your plate put a small ramekin of soy sauce, wasabi, or even mayo. You can mix your mayo with a little soy or sriracha sauce to add some zest if you wish.
  8. Slice the tuna up into thin slices and serve as shown!

Notes:

The directions above will give you a piece of tuna that is sashimi style and rather rare, so be advised before serving this to anyone with a weak immune system or food sensitivities. If you wish you can cook it longer, however anything over two minutes per side will dry out your tuna and cause it to lose its flavor.
