The NPS has officially announced its nationwide recruitment drive for Police Constables, inviting eligible Kenyans to join the force. This move follows a legal battle between the NPS and the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), with the court ruling in favor of NPS as the rightful authority for recruitment.
Initially, the NPSC had planned to conduct the recruitment from October 3 to October 9, 2025, but an order from the Employment and Labour Relations Court on October 2 temporarily halted the process. The High Court later declared the NPSC's advertisement unconstitutional, confirming NPS's mandate.
But here's where it gets controversial: the NPS has set specific criteria for applicants. To apply, you must be between 18 and 28 years old, a registered Kenyan citizen, and possess a valid Kenya National Identity Card. Additionally, you need a minimum D+ grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
And this is the part most people miss: applicants must have a clean criminal record and meet the NPS's physical requirements. Males must be at least 1.7 meters tall (5ft 8in), while females must be at least 1.6 meters tall (5ft 3in). Physical and mental fitness is a must, and female applicants cannot be pregnant during the recruitment and training period.
The NPS has also encouraged graduates of the National Youth Service (NYS) to apply, provided they meet the entry requirements. Preference will be given to those with a 'Good' conduct rating.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja Kirocho has issued a stern warning against bribery and corruption, emphasizing that the recruitment process is free and open to all qualified candidates.
