making a small amount, start with a tablespoon of beeswax and two tablespoons of coconut oil. For a firmer lip balm, especially in warmer climates, add a teaspoon at a time to get the desired ratio. You may even go as high as 1:1 ratio.

Generally speaking, you need to use roughly 15-20% beeswax to 25-30% butter and 45-50% oil. The more butter and wax you use, the thicker or 'sturdier' your lip balm will be. This is good if you want your lip balm to stay on for quite a while. It will also be 'creamier', which is how we like it!

Add a few drops of the essential oil to the mix, and stir. Transfer the lip-balm to a jar or tin, and let it cool for half an hour.

Basic lip balm recipe

Simply melt three tablespoons of beeswax pellets with two tablespoons of shea butter and four tablespoons of coconut oil before stirring in 10 to 20 drops of your favourite essential oil. You can then pour this mixture into pots or tubes and leave it to cool.
