Dillicious!

This delicious dill hummus can be used as a dip, spread, or even thinned for use as a salad dressing. It uses ordinary ingredients and can me made in just a few minutes. It’s super healthy, too! Dill is a summer herb and may be getting a bit mature right now in most locations. It’s still delicious when a bit long in the tooth or dried can be used here as well.

End of Summer Adventures

I had a lovely adventure the other day. I pass a driveway almost daily with a painted sign that simply says, “Flowers, cut and dried.” There isn’t much too see from the road, but down that drive is a beautiful, serve yourself cutting garden with zinnias, sunflowers, larkspur, and all sorts of just delightful blooms. The gardener stopped by to chat. Turns out his name is Floyd and he’s the dad of the guy who owns Fresh Forage in Ann Arbor, which we’ve been meaning to stop in at (not vegan, but lots of vegan options). It’s truly a small and delightful world.

Such a short summer, tho! It went by so fast. I can’t believe kids are back in school and it’s almost fall. Here are a few things from the last couple weeks …

I made a rash decision to dye my hair purple before heading out to a local music festival … I was in a hurry and didn’t read the directions. “Must be applied to wet hair.” Apparently that was an important step. It ended up more My Little Pony mane like than I’d imagined. But it’s fading and it was fun for a short time.

No Place Like Home

The end of summer always feels a little sad and melancholy for me. It’s my favorite season. But endings are often followed by new beginnings. So there’s this … We finally settled on a house plan for our new property and home building adventure. Something smaller than what I have now was the idea. I was halfway done drawing our own plans but then found these … this is what we picked from an awesome online source, Nelson Design Group.

We’re going to build it ourselves. And by build I don’t mean we’re going to subcontract it, but we’re actually doing the most/all of the labor from the basem*nt up. I’m talking hammers and nails. I’m really looking forward to this ultimate DIY project! It took a long time to find the right plans, plus lots of online house plan sites are pretty dubious.

Nelson Design Group for House Plans

Nelson Design Group is a small, family friendly company. They were super helpful and really helped guide us through the process. If you’re thinking about building, I highly recommend them. I’ll be posting progress pics of the house as we go … interspersed with delicious vegan recipes, of course.

Here’s a few more end of summer pics.

So, this long meandering post was for a reason. Really. While out looking for zinnias and things, I found some almost spent dill and decided I absolutely had to have some dill hummus. It was so delicious and fresh. It’s too simple to honestly call it a actual recipe, but here’s how I made it …

I’m in love with my new camera. I got a Sony Alpha full frame one and … omg, this is my soulmate camera. I’ve always said, “I’m not a good cook I’m a good photographer!” And I did OK with a Canon. But Sony Alpha, I honestly love you.
