Find all Cottages for sale in Atlanta.Cottages gained some popularity as far back as the 1850s. Since then, their cozy and intimate feel has kept them a common choice for those who don't need a lot of space. Cottages became popular in the United States after architects of the 1920s and 1930s were inspired by the medieval styles within the English countryside.

Cottage Info
The cottages themselves were smaller houses, so the term actually included the neighboring gardens. Although the amount of land is often a lot less today, cottages are still smaller, cozy homes. Most often they are encircled with the same type of lush arrays of shrubs and flowers.
Cozy cottages with charming, storybook features had a surge of popularity in the roaring ‘20s. Especially so with America’s prosperous middle class in the northeast.
Many now use the term cottage generically to mean any small house, as the American Webster's Dictionary defines it. The definition is simply “a usually small frame one-family house”. Today, the term cottage is used colloquially to mean “vacation home” by many Americans.
Common Characteristics of Cottage Homes
Cottage style houses exude warmth and cozy character, often lakeside or beachside in more rural or vacation areas. Cottage homes in suburban areas for all year living make for charming, hospitable domiciles. Look for:
- small houses with simple floor plans
- steeply pitched roofs
- cross gables
- arched doorways
- wood facades
- small panes in casem*nt windows
- ground floor living space with upstairs bedrooms
- stucco siding, stone or brick facings
- brick walkways with arched entryway, often covered in roses or ivy
Cottages are known for having incredible curb appeal, no matter how much land they occupy.
Benefits of a Cottage Home
A modest, cozy abode, a cottage-style house warms the hearts of all who enter. Usually, in more rural or suburban areas, cottage dwellers love their smaller homes filled with love. Rose gardens, vegetables, and fruit trees frequently surround the cottage style home. The fairy-tale look of cottages appeals to those who like soft, bright, yet warm and cozy styles.
A Sense of Timelessness in Cottage Homes
Soft tones, on casual, authentic furniture adds to the sense of timelessness in many cottage homes. The vintage feeling captured by personalized accessories envelopes you in comfort and relaxation.
Cottage houses allow room for individuality. A cottage style home reflects your sense of self with an exquisite design. A cottage is synonymous with casual, comfortable, easy living. Classic, no-frills architectural accents and simple color palettes make you happy to be home. Easily mix both old and new accessories, show off rare or delightfully inexpensive collections. Exhibit the simple right beside ornate pieces, and pull it all together into a cottage style home to love.
