Would you count them all seeing as all the butter comes out all over the baking tray?

On the packet it states 390 for one kiev and I suspect that is due to the butter.

Perhaps knock 20 calories off for the butter that oozes out.

Are you wanting to knock that many calories off because you want to eat more? Calories in a chicken kiev? (5)Calories in a chicken kiev? (6)

I don't think there is THAT much butter in them really. A lot of the fat that comes out is from the chicken ect (unless they're the actual chicken fillet ones rather than the reformed ones)

I had the kiev with salad so its only the calories from the actual chicken I am counting, but what always annoys me with them, and is the reason I hardly ever buy them is that I would love to cut into one and have all the butter oozing out. It never happens!

Oh well, probably a bit inaccurate for today.

Which is about a tablespoon of butter, probably not that much butter in it to begin with and most would have been soaked up by the breadcrumbs (and there are probably more calories in the breadcrumbs to begin with). I agree with about 20.

I would be more concerned about the fat content in chicken Kievs! I love them but won't touch them as they are so bad for you..

We dont usually eat pre processed foods but I really fancied something with loads of butter without buying butter. It disappointed and I should have known really.

Once you get used to good, fresh real food, processed food just tastes horrible, and really not worth the calories when dieting!

I dont have to 'get used to' good fresh food, I have cooked and eaten that all my life. Not all fat people live on takeaways and processed food! But like everyone sometimes we buy convenience foods. I am now trying to wean my OH off anything with breadcrumbs because thats all he will eat, however, he turns his nose up at most things I cook!

Not all chicken kievs are made form processed chicken meat. You get loads these days which are just whole chicken breast filled with garlic butter and covered in breadcrumbs.

So not much of a "processed food" as you might think.

I know... annoying isn't it when ppl assume you are only eating convenience foods? Calories in a chicken kiev? (17)

Unless someone only eats raw food which as fallen off a tree/ plant and picked it up themselves then most food has been "processed" in some way.

tiacat.. have you tried making you own oven cooked chicken kiev? really easy! (a bit messy with the dipping in egg yolk then breadcrumbs but fun and very yummy!) Calories in a chicken kiev? (18)Calories in a chicken kiev? (19)

If hubby is addicted to breadcrumby noms then nothing really wrong with that, you could disguise many a dish with breadcrumbs! (chicken fajitas (chicken bits in breadcrumbs and oven cooked), crunchy topping on veg, breaded chops... now I'm hungry!)

Well we are going through a whole attempt to get him a bit healthier. We always do shopping together and buy fresh food but then in the evenings he would come home with his fish, onion rings and horrible meat balls!!!

Apart from me finding a pack of onion rings in the freezer he hasnt really done this and his blood sugar levels are coming down as he has cut out the bread and potatoes and rice (used to have huge portions of those things).

I would like to try my own kiev but I know that you have to fry it so didnt really want to.

Yes this was a whole breast, but not very tasty as most of the filling came out!

oh nopey! I cook mine in the oven. Calories in a chicken kiev? (26) 30 minutes at 170 (fan assisted). I've never fried them as they are then way too greasy for my tum to handle. Also if you don't want to to sit in any garlic buttery juice that leaks you can cook them on the grill rack in the oven to save some cals (but kinda defeats the object of yummy garlicy butter goodness.)

yes I dont want to waste any of the garlic butter, thats why I bought it in the first place. I cant buy butter in the house as I will eat it. Usually in slices on cucumber (try it!)

Calories in a chicken kiev? (30) try keeping the butter in the freezer. keeps for up to around 3 to 6 months and you might be less tempted to nom it Calories in a chicken kiev? (31)

(I now cut a chunk off to keep out on the side in a small glass dish so I don't have the whole pack out at one time so I can limit my usage and don't slaver it on everything)

What's bad about them? You need fat in your diet.
